I can’t begin to count how many radios we have in our house – at least one in every room AND we need another one as my daughter tunes MY Bathroom Roberts Radio to HER station of choice. And don’t get me started on the ‘in-car’ preferences of my family – let’s say we’re all pretty promiscuous when it comes to our love of radio - and who doesn’t switch the radio on a second after the ignition.

What I love about working in radio is that no two days are ever the same.
In one day I could have a script brief for a garden centre, a national chain of toy shops, a tattoo parlour and a hospice – talk about varied!

When it comes to writing commercials, I love the process of honing down several hundred words into an effective piece of advertising copy comprising of only around 80 words – just add a great voice and music; possibly some sound effects and ‘the sky’s the limit’ in just 80 words! Amazing!

Radio offers advertisers a great marketing solution at a cost effective price
when compared to other media. At S2blue we’re passionate about producing creative commercials made to high production values that not only work for the advertiser but give exceptional value (with great turnaround times) for radio stations too. So everyone’s a winner.

Passionate about radio…..who moi?

I love radio because no other medium can use the imagination to create images in the mind the way radio can. Radio is the most loved medium, a friendly companion that is with you in your most intimate spaces: the bedroom, bathroom and car amongst other places. It has an emotional power that is just not there with TV and newspapers.

...I am passionate about radio ...love it...love it...love it!

My love affair with radio started over fifteen years ago when I co-hosted the breakfast show on Viking FM before moving into the commercial production arena. I have written, voiced and produced commercials for clients including Global Radio, UKRD, what was TLRC, the Inchcape Motor group, the Co-Operative, the Samaritans, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Domino’s Pizza, Sainsbury’s and many, many less well known individual clients. Regardless of the job, I offer the same levels of creativity and professionalism - when you’re in love with something, you just can’t turn it on and off can you?!

In February 2002, I was invited to present a radio creativity workshop at the RAB Annual Sales Conference in Florida. The presentation took the form of a series of three minute ”playlets” all of which I wrote and directed.

Competent at discussing and presenting script ideas with both clients and sales executives, I have also produced and directed voiceovers having worked with celebrity voices including the likes of Martin Clunes, Caroline Quentin, Jimmy Saville and Leslie Philips.

My passion for radio started when I was about 12 and used to listen to the ‘hot list’ on my local station every night, I preferred it to the TV! I loved it! I loved the whole idea that I was part of this group of listeners, our own little community.

I have radios everywhere in my house now too. It’s such a non-invasive thing so you can listen to it whilst cooking, taking a shower, driving to work etc.

So I felt right at home when I got my job in commercial production, as I now get to work alongside great radio talent and work with clients to create that special ‘something’ they want to put across to their listeners. And I still enjoy popping the radio on when I leave to join my local station - even though they don’t do the ‘Hot List’ anymore!
